Exchange Public Folder Limitation using NMM 9

Can anyone tell me what limitations there are when recovering Exchange 2010 public folders using NMM ver9?

for example, with earlier NMM version you had to overwrite the PF DB with the recovery, is this still the case.

From reading the user guide it would seem that you can now recover to an alternate location and use third party tools to retrieve single items.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.
