Hi guys! Need help

I am new to back up service.

At the company i work we use Networker 9.0.1, and we use DataDomain and a back up tape library.
My question is: When i configure the Data Retention, on a CLONE policy wich writes data from DD to TAPE, and if i configure it

to retention data for example 10 years, immediately after the CLONE i take the tapes out of library and archive them, will I be able to read these data after 12 years for example or will my data be  erased the moment I put the tapes back on tape library?

I hope I was understandable! Thank u in advance!

You should be able to do that - this is how NW works.

The retention is just a "software limitation" which tells the NW server when he will be allowed to relabel/recycle a tape.

But it will not do it once it is expired - it will only do so if he needs the media. But if this is unavailable, he will not be able to recycle it. So it will also keep the information in the media db.

Now whether you will be able to recover depends on so many issues that you cannot really predict whether this will run successfully. So make sure that

  -  the environmental conditions are fine

And do not forget that you need

  -  a compatible tape drive (plus drivers)

  -  at least a client/snode with a compatible OS
