NMM 2.4 used for Hyper-V + CSV environments, has anyone used it ?

Hello,

I am thinking of removing the standard Networker clients on my Hyper-V ( CSV used) clients and back them up using NMM 2.4.

As this is a new Networker module, I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who might have used it so far.

Regards,

Bogdan

Hello,

I am trying to backup Hyper-V VMs that use CSV with NMM 2.4.

The same version of Integrated services is on the VM as well as on the Hyper-V nodes.

I have configured the following commands on the Hyper-V cluster instance in Networker Console.

Backup command :

nsrsnap_vss_save.exe

Application information:

NSR_SNAP_TYPE=VSS

NSR_FEDERATED_BACKP=yes

NSR_VSS_FORCE_SYSTEM_PROVIDER=yes

Save set:

APPLICATIONS:\Microsoft Hyper-V\Vm_name

I have tried to backup using Networker 7.6.4 and Networker 8, without any luck.

Can anyone help with additional information ?

Thanks,

Bogdan

Hi Bogdan,

Can you please let us know what error message are you getting?

If you render the nmm.raw from the client and past it here would be of much help.

Thank you.

Carlos.

Hi Carlos,

I have managed to back up the VMs, apparently I wrote the name in lowercase and on the Hyper-V cluster it was written in uppercase.

However, I am still having issues with backing up the physical Hyper-V nodes.

I have tried to use different snapshot policies, but without any success :

I have run tests with snapshot policies configured as follows:

1.

Backup snapshots : ALL

Snapshots: 1

Retain Snapshots: 1

2.

Backup snapshots: First

Snapshots: 1

Retain snapshots: 0

Phisical nodes are configured as follows:

Saveset :

C:\

SYSTEM COMPONENTS:\

Backup command :

nsrsnap_vss_save.exe

Application information:

NSR_SNAP_TYPE=VSS

NSR_IGNORE_MISSING_SYSTEM_FILES=yes

I am getting th efollowing error in tmp\sg logs :

1 retry attempted

Thank you for your help and apologies for the delay.

Hi Bogdan,

This looks like a wrong configuration either in the client itself or in the group.

Is this snapshot group? (Have you checked the box of snapshots in the group configuration?)

Do you have any pool selected in the client configuration? (If so leave that field blank)

Do you have selected the "Data Domain backup" option in the client configuration? (If so uncheck the box).

Thank you.

Carlos.

Hi Carlos,

Yes, it is a snapshot group, I have tried with the following policies :

1.

Backup snapshots : ALL

Snapshots: 1

Retain Snapshots: 1

2.

Backup snapshots: First

Snapshots: 1

Retain snapshots: 0

No pools are selected and Data Domain backup feature is unchecked.

Thanks and regards,

Bogdan

Hi Bogdan,

Some times is better to see than to read

Could you please attach screenshots of all the tabs of the client configuration?

Thank you.

Carlos.

Carlos,

Hi Carlos,

Please see attached config.docx file. Also, I will attach a new daemon.raw

Let me know if anything else is needed.

Thanks and regards,

Hi Bogdan,

Actually the configuration looks good, and in the daemon from server there is not really much information I could use.

Can you please attach the files found on the Nw server under:

D:\Legato\nsr\tmp\sg\Hyper-V AMO

and also the nmm.raw found in Hyper-V server under /nsr/applogs

Thank you.

Carlos.

Hi Carlos,

I have uploaded the requested nmm logs.

Also, I have moved the filesystem client instances to a group named " test hypv".

I have attached both D:\Legato\nsr\tmp\sg\Hyper-V AMO and D:\Legato\nsr\tmp\sg\test hypv logfiles.

Thanks.

Bogdan

Hi Carlos,

What would be the impact of this. For my information, could you please tell why have you suggested this.

"Do you have selected the "Data Domain backup" option in the client configuration? (If so uncheck the box)."

Hi Carlos,

Adding further, I am eager to know D:\Legato\nsr\tmp\sg\Hyper-V AMO logs.

I just want to know what are these logs and when/why should we look for these logs.
