NMM 230 Exchange 2010 granular restore not showing mailboxes

Jump to solution

Single Exchange 2010 server, so no DAG.

NetWorker Server Version: NetWorker 7.6.3.2.Build.860 Network Edition/42

NMM 2.3 build 109

We performed a mailbox database restore in the restore database.

nsrsnap_vss_recover NMM .. Mounted Exchange database [Restore]

nsrsnap_vss_recover  Exchange restore completed for Mailbox Store

nsrsnap_vss_recover NMM .. restore completed and returned no error.

Then we tried to perform granular restore, but it shows only the restore database without mailboxes... nothing to select.

I checked with "get-mailboxstatistics -database Restore" and it shows the mailboxes in the restore database, so data is present.

The windows application eventlog seems to record following message every time we try to startup the granular restore:

"mapi(4428): Could not open EMS Store for Exchange Server PWVMAIL02, status 0x81002746."

The user should be fine... it received send-as & receive-as permissions.

Somebody to help me out ?

Hi Tom,

Yes, the user you are trying to restore with should have a mailbox active.

Also remember to start NMM GUI with "Run as Admin" in case UAC is enabled.

There was a method to troubleshoot the MAPI errors, in fact it's a Microsoft tool, I'll try to find it and send you the link, in the meantime check the following Microsoft KB:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911144

Also check this EMC KB:

Thank you.

Hi Tom,

This looks like either permissions issue or MAPI error.

Check in the event viewer the Exchange logs, you should find in there some permissions or MAPI errors that will help you to get to the root cause of the issue.

Anyway, as always, I will recommend to install NMM Config Checkler.,

Thank you.

Thanks Carlos for you quick response, in fact no errors except the one i described about the EMC Store.
The user should have sufficient permissions: Pass CREDENTIALS_CHECK: Active Directory credentials validation for Exchange is successful.

But maybe we should create a new one with a mailbox... I was thinking about the following remark from the EMC Config Checker: RDB_RESTORE_MAILBOX_CHECK: Make sure that the logged in user has a mailbox for RDB recovery.

Solved.

The user migrated to a new exchange server and the user that we were using didn't have a mailbox on the new server and was hidden from GAL.

So creating the mailbox solved the problems.... that's why we got the mapi errors.

Carlos, thanks for you help !
