NW9: Cant see the DB through NW console

Hi Everyone,

I have this lab set at a esxi:

- NW9 at Windows 2008R2

- SQLExpress2008 at Windows 2008R2

I already install the NMM on the SQL server and also the agent.

I can add the SQL server as a filesystem server, browse the folders and take backups, BUT when trying to add the SQL as a SQLserver it doesnt let me expand the server and neither click next, I cant see the DB.

Aditionally, I run the backup from the SQL module and it works fine

I already did the all these with NW8.2 environment and everything works fine. Am I missing something??

Hi everyone,

After trying some stuffs I figured out that adding the client by IP doesnt work so well, so I have to add it by HOSTNAME; for that I had to add the IP and hostname into the HOSTS file in both servers(since I dont have an domain implemented)

I deleted the client 192.168.1.114 and then added it again using the HOSTNAME.... and now I can browse the databases.

Thanks to all!

As these are different mechanisms, this is not possible.

The standard client setup is for filesystem clients only.

I know that that's why I installed the Networker Module for Microsoft as well.

As I said I did the same steps on a NW 8.2 environment and it works fine; this mean I can browse the databases.

Hello hamihamiha

Please try to manually register the "Remote Agent" by running the following commands on the SQL client:

First make sure we update the VSS Writers information in the nsrladb by running:

vssclupdate

Then register the agent by running:

nsrnmsqlra -i

(nsr nmsql ra)

If it fails then go to the installation path for NMM in command prompt and run it from there.

Thank you,

Carlos

Well, so much has changed on the NW9. it might be just a cosmetic bug, i would recommend you to reach the support to see if a bug report has already been file on this.

I suspect your issue is that wizard might work well with real SQL, but not so well with Express version of it.

Hello hamihamiha

Also please make sure you disable UAC in all servers of the farm (WFE and SQL)

Also yes, thanks Hrvoje, I didn't read the SQLExpress option.

Try with UAC disabled and let us know.

Thank you,

Carlos
