Jump to solution

Hello

I have test environment includes DC 2008, exchange 2007 and networker 8.1

Exchange mailboxes are on separete disc, logs are on the system disc.

Networker operates from local user: administrator. Storage node is local.

I install NMM 3.0 module on exchange server and configure acording Module for Microsoft for Exchange Server VSS.

.

After backup operation folowing errors:

Few questions:

1. How to configure credentials between netwoker and exchange? Configuring LDAP and operate from domain user?

2. Why fail backup?

Thank you for your answers!

Hi Alex,

No, this snapshot policy configuration is wrong. Basically you cannot instruct to retain the same amount of snapshots that you intend to backup (or save to backup device) so if you want to try at the moment, please remove the "Retain snapshots" variable from application information field, set the number of snapshots to be taken to "1" and then select backup snapshots to "All".

This is just to make sure that everything else is working fine, then we can tune up your snapshot policy depending on your requirements.

Thank you,

Carlos

Hi Alex,

First, your backup is failing because your snapshot policy configuration:

80276:nsrsnap_vss_save:NMM .. Error: Local retention of snapshots is not allowed unless the Exchange application information variable NSR_EXCH_RETAIN_SNAPSHOTS is present and contains the value "yes". Group: "Exchange" Snapshot Policy: "sp01" Snapshots Per Day: "4" Retain: "4" Backup Snapshots: "All" Level: "full".

80253:nsrsnap_vss_save:NMM.. Unable to continue backup.  "APPLICATIONS:\Microsoft Exchange 2007" snapshot policy requirements are not met.

This is because you have set a policy to take 4 snapshots, retain 4 snapshots and roll-over ALL snapshots.

This is wrong, as you cannot retain and roll-over all the snapshots.

If you intend to retain snapshots, you should leave your snapshot policy as it is, but change the value for "Backup snapshots" to either first, last etc..., depending which snapshot you intend to save in backup device.

As for the authentication, you just need to create or use an existing user with the required permissions (please check the documentation to find out the required permissions, as for each version of Exchange Server permissions change), and then set that user as credentials for the service Replication Manager Exchange Interface.

Thank you,

Carlos

Carlos, thank you for your reply

According to your reply I change snapshot policy: Snapshots Per Day: "1" Retain: "1" Backup Snapshots: "First", is that correct configuration?

After start backup following error:

Hi Carlos,

In test environment all works fine. I deploy exchange backup in production environment, it has few differences:

1. backup to datadomain

2. exchange has 2 storage groups, both on the same disc (D:\), logs on system disc (C:\)

But, as I understand in client and group configuration there is no differences. After backup became folowing error:

APPLICATIONS:\Microsoft Exchange 2007: Backup of [APPLICATIONS:\Microsoft Exchange 2007] failed

on Information parameter: CIRCULAR_PROMOTION_POLICY, may not be supported

102357:nsrsnap_vss_save:Unknown Application Information parameter: NSR_SAVE_FROM_SAVEGRP_NSRSNAP, may not be supported

102345:nsrsnap_vss_save:Data mover host name not specified. Assuming local host: mail1.*.local

102338:nsrsnap_vss_save:Backup is level FULL. Set GLR compatibility to YES.

80271:nsrsnap_vss_save:NMM .. Valid snapshot policy. Group: "Exchange" Snapshot Policy: "RolloverOnly" Snapshots Per Day: "1"  Retain: "0" Backup Snapshots: "All" Level: "full".

NMM ... Using client name MAIL1, the version of the Exchange server is Exchange 2007.

47363:nsrsnap_vss_save: nsrpsd service is running on mail1.*.local.

82624:nsrsnap_vss_save:Save set name APPLICATIONS:\Microsoft Exchange 2007 is valid.

37959:nsrsnap_vss_save:Unspecified error

.

63335:nsrsnap_vss_save:NMM backup failed to complete successfully.

Internal error.

102333 1404462287 3 0 0 7720 5380 0 mail1.*.local nsrsnap_vss_save NSR error 21 Exiting with failure. 0

In the same time in networker admin console appears folowing message: Mail1.*.local: ERROR: nsrsnap_vss_save: failed

Do you have any ideas what it could be?

Thank you,

Alex

Hi Alex,

Looks like the Circular Logging Promotion is failing.

Can you please attach the nmm.raw file so that I can take a look?

Thank you,

Carlos
