Networker Server as a VM

Hi Guys,

I have 3 physical Nodes. 1 as a Networker server with no Tape Drives attached but an AFTD. the 2 other nodes are Storage nodes only.

I am running out of space on the C: drive of the Networker server. This is due to the NSR directory expanding to hold the clients indexes.

Firstly as anyond had to move this directory to say a 😧 drive ect? Or has anyone tried to insert a mount point and move the data to it?

Finally. Has anyone P2V'd a networker server and are currently running in this configuration?

does anyone know if this config would be supported by EMC?

Thanks guys.

Sorry Version is 7.5.2 shortly going to 7.5.3

Re: Networker Server as a VM

Hi Scott,

Running a NetWorker server in a VM is supported.  The only issue is that you cannot have a tape device directly attached to the ESX server as there is a VMWare issue with SCSI isolation which means that this is not supported.  You also need to be careful to assign sufficient resources to the VM.

Re: Networker Server as a VM

hi Scott,

moving NSR indices is IMHO the best strategy, not P2V.

do not only use "symbolic links" for the new .../nsr/index,

but make use of the "index path" field within the client resource as well
