VSS System state backup fails with below error
VSS SYSTEM BOOT: VSS Writer: ASR Writer is not supported, ignoring it.

Is this win2k3 or win2k8? And most important, do you have already applied some VSS patches?

Check the patch list. There are many VSS patches for win2k3 and some of those are obligatory.
