list of valid password characters?

Hello,
Does anybody know what the list of valid characters are for passwords when running Networker (7.4) on an HP Unix server and backing up windows clients?
Thanks,
-Andy

I think you don't need a password to run backup of windows client.

I'm not sure that I understand that as we have always seemed to need a password.

Only reason you would need them is if the Windows administrator does nto have backup operator priviledges. In that case, you enter the backup operator's username/password in Remote User/password attributes of the client resource. The password is the one that you use for Windows login and no Networker rul would apply for this.

Normally the networker daemons on Windows start using the NT/System user. All domain administrators and local administrators have priveledges to backup data. If you are being prompted for user id and password then there is something wrong in the manner which networker is operating in your environment. Would suggest adding your local user in the remote access field in the client configuration instead of giving the remote user / password. The syntax you need to use is either user@hostname.

I assume your Windows admins during the initial Windows setup decided to assign backup user who would do the backup (and restore thus this used gets used by operators). This is not so rarely seen concept in enterprise environments.

I never heard for any character limits as basically you put in password that is on Windows box (or domain). However, if using some special characters I would not put my hand in fire that certain strange things do not happen. But combination of letters and numbers works for sure. I would avoid certain characters like _,$, &, etc... (which may have special meaning at certain places).
