Dell PowerConnect POE (3424P and 3448P) switches problem
Hi,
I do have weird problem with Dell PowerConnect POE Switches
I do have one 3448P(main) and two 3424P switches
First 3424P is connected to 3448P thru G3 (gigabit) ports (G3 on both switches) by regular cable and everything works fine (MDI/MDIX set to Auto)
Second 3424P I can not get work thru gigabit ports - I have to use G4 port on main(3448P) switch and regular port on 3424P or vice versa : use G3 or G4 ports on second 3424 and regular port on 3448P - only in this configuration it works
So I know all port are working - all cables are tested – and configuration of all 3424P switches are the same
Anything I am missing ? anybody ever had the same problem? I like to have gigabit b/w all switches…

If the switch is in stacking mode, then g3 and g4 are stacking ports.
You can tell that the switch is in stacking mode if the "Master" led and a "Stack ID" led on the front panel are lit.
To get it out of stacking mode, reboot the switch, when the "Stack ID" starts to blink, press the "Select" button until no "Stack ID" leds are lit.
When the switch boots, g3 and g4 will be normal 1G ports.

none of three switches are in stackable mode. LED are off and thru web management it confirms it

100 Mb Ethernet only requires 4 wires in the cable. 1000 Mb Ethernet requires 8 wires in the cable. I suspect you have the wrong cables. Take the cable that works and move it to the switches with the 1G ports that do not work and see if the problem is fixed.

you are absolutely right. One of the jacks had intermittent problem - and last pair not always had a contact – thank you so much for your help
