Dell Trunking 5548 Stack to 7048 Issue

Hello,

I have a Dell 5548 6 Switch Stack running a number of vlans for a VMware infrastructure. I am attempting to trunk vlans 300-310 to multiple 7048 switches. The confusing part of this situation is that it is working for only 1 out of the 3 individual 7048 switches. The configuration on both ends is exactly the same as far as I can tell. Appreciate any input on the issue. Here is the configurations for the working switch and one of the not working switches, let me know if there is any other information that is needed.

Hi,

Are they all running the same firmware version?

From what you posted they looks the same, is there something on the port config that you did differently?

@DELL-Josh Cr

Thank you for your response. Much appreciated!

I forgot to mention this in the original post. Both 7048 switches are running on firmware version 5.1.13.1.

The 5548 Stack is running firmware version 4.1.0.21

I noticed there is a firmware update for the 7048 switches, which can be applied with schedulded downtime. Although, it is a bit confusing how they are both running the same fw version but only one works. Which makes me lean toward a configuration issue but I am unsure what.

Thanks!

The switch port config for the 5548 was as follow:

switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk allowed vlan add 300-310

7048 Config

Switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk allowed vlan 300-310

Very weird issue. Are there any trunking limitations with a 5548 Stack?

It shouldn’t but it is a slower switch chip and if there is a lot of traffic it might not keep up.
