I have a Dell 6024 that I want to use instead of a old 2600 cisco router
I have a large network that I'm trying to get back in control. The 2600 Cisco is the gateway for 5 networks here.
Right now the Dell 6024 is a layer 2 only switching and i want to move eveyrthing off the cisco to it . The current vlan1 is taged on all ports. All 5 networks can be seen by the router and there are only a hand full of static routed networks on the router.
I don't think I need to break each network to a vlan.
Any suggestions or where to start would be great.

I need to get the Cisco out totally and have the 6024 do all the routing.

Well, since the Dell will see all of your VLANs if you set the default VLAN ID to 1. The Cisco can still see the ID1 traffic and that should do it. If you want to change IDs on the VLANs then it'll take a little reading on the Dell doc site for the switch in the VLAN tagging and queing section I believe as you'll need to do the Port based side of things. The ports can also be aggregated in to LAG groups to pass all the traffic through the switch to the router as it will be the only device to see all traffic on all VLANs which is as good as having firewalls between all VLANs. Anyone else can chime in as I prefer the first route over the second.

Ok, you'll need to get a lot of coffee, set up a solid terminal interface to the unit so if it goes off line you can undo it, then read this section of the docs. Adding an IP to the unit is the easy part, this is where the rubber meets the road....

Sorry, the link left out where in the docs, it's under the "configuring routing" section.

Sweet, the Cisco may be gone but, as I think if you look under the hood of the 6024, the CLI is still around and still needs a little polish but it works. I've only had 1 failure of a Dell switch in 12 years so you're safe I'm sure.
