PowerConnect 6224 switch

Hi,

I have inherited a 6224 switch from a group within my company.  I 'am trying to setup this switch to sit between the edge, and my internal firewall.  I want to have a snort server sitting on an interface and watching untrusted side network traffic.  I'm trying to figure out how to configure a port on the switch to see all traffic coming from the edge router.  The switch is running a very old version of firmware which worries me.(2.0.0.12)  I was looking on the Dell support site, and it was tough to determine if there is an upgrade path for this switch.  I would value some input from you guys on how to setup a spanning port, and if I need to really get off of the old version of firmware code.

Current firmware is 3.3.7.3 and can be downloaded here.

The firmware download includes instructions on how to upgrade the firmware.

From your description it sounds like port mirroring will allow you to accomplish your goal.

Page 332 of the user guide goes over the feature.

The following examples shows various port monitoring configurations.

console(config)#monitor session 1 source interface 1/g8

console(config)#monitor session 1 destination interface 1/g10

console(config)#monitor session 1 mode

Hope this helps some.

Cheers
