PowerConnect2824: incorrect reading of serial number

Hi,

There is a bug in reading serial number of the switch via Web or SNMP: readed string lacks the last character.

For example, the switch with serial num CN.............K1234 (20 characters) will show up as CN.............K123 (19 characters). As a result there is no way to get correct SN remotely -- you need to ask somebody to read the marking on the switch body.

Thanks

Just a note: reproduced on firmware ver 1.0.0.44 and earlier.

I would start by running the following command

show tech-support

And then compare the output, try to narrow down if this is happening across the whole switch, or just in the web GUI.

I am not aware of a method to change the serial number in the switch. And you are already at the latest firmware revision. The next step would be to call into support at 1-800-945-3355, to open a case on this issue. Have the show tech-support output and even a screen shot of the Web GUI available to email and be attached to the case. This way everything can be documented and if need be escalated as a possible firmware issue.

Thanks.

Output of 'show tech-support' does not contain serial number.

I am not in US now so maybe contact support when I am back.

Thanks
