Powerconnect 2748 - Unable to connect to Management Site.

Hey all. recently I purchased a Dell 2748 to be the core switch in my home datacenter. For what it is doing, its working beautifully and much better then the Netgear it replaced. The only issue I have encountered is I am unable to connect to the Web management portion of the swtich. I press the button on the front of the swtich, and the green light comes on, however I am unable to access http://192.168.2.1 attempts to ping that address also fail. The swtich was purchased off my company, who is replacing almost all of our networking gear, so I figured maybe they had it set to a 10.x.x.x address as this is what we use internally, however using angry IP scanner looking fro IPs between 10.0.0.1 and 10.254.254.254 nothing turned up. So the question is

A: When you hit the management button should the switch restart (turn off and on) or should the light just come on.

B: How Do I reset the switch to factory settings to just build my own config.

Cheers

Re: Powerconnect 2748 - Unable to connect to Management Site.

The button toggles between managed and unmanaged mode.  When the LED is lit it is in managed mode.  When you toggle it from managed, to unmanaged, to managed, the IP address is reset back to 192.168.2.1.  The switch reboot to change modes, so it may take a minute or so before it is pingable.

Is your PC on the 192.168.2.x subnet when you try to ping the switch?

Re: Powerconnect 2748 - Unable to connect to Management Site.

The server I have been using is directly attached to the switch, however I didn't even think to check that. When I get back home I will make sure it is on the 102.168.2.x subnet

Re: Powerconnect 2748 - Unable to connect to Management Site.

Ok, so turns out that my all machines are on the 192.168.1.x subnet, however I am a bigger n00b then I orrigionally thought, and am unable to switch to the 192.168.2.x netowrk. Anyone care to run me through a quick tutorial or give me a link to read?

Re: Powerconnect 2748 - Unable to connect to Management Site.

Start > Settings > Network Connections > Local Area Connection > Double Click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" > Click "Use the Following IP Address" > IP Address = "192.158.2.x" > Subnet Mast = "255.255.255.0" > Click OK > Click OK

Re: Powerconnect 2748 - Unable to connect to Management Site.

That did it, connected directly to the switch with a spare laptop, set to 192.168.2.2 and was able to manage the switch. Now its set to a static of 192.168.1.254 that way we will never run into this issue again, not to mention I never forsee having more then 100 clients on my network at any one time.

That worked for me as well. However, now I cannot get to the home page; only the restore page.

Is the switch in managed mode? Do you have a screenshot of the restore page? I am not sure I am familiar with it.
