RIP on powerconnect 6224

Hi people,

having a few issues with RIP, i have always used Cisco equipment and dont really get the Dell RIP set up.

I have 3 Vlans set on switch 1 all of these VLAN can communicate with each other, however on switch 2 i have a VLAN that cannot communicate due to routing.

Routing  and RIP is enabled on both switches but they do not share the routing tables?

On Cisco i would type

sw1 router rip

network x.x.x.x

network x.x.x.x

network x.x.x.

sw2 router rip

network x.x.x.x

I feel its a simple fix although i am not finding it, any help would be appreciated.

Re: RIP on powerconnect 6224

To enable RIP on a 6224, the commands should look similar to this.

(Config)# router rip

(Config-router)# enable

(Config-router)# exit

(Config)# interface vlan 10 (this will be whatever VLAN you need it to be)

(Config-if-vlan10)# ip rip

Some more information can be found on page 562

Hope this helps,

Re: RIP on powerconnect 6224

Thank for the reply i could ping between hosts n different VLANs i just couldnt get the info to exchange between switches.

I have a new issue, i deleted VLAN 3 and then went to create it as i did with the previous vlans.

I can see that the vlan has been created and has routing enabled and address assigned to it, although this does not show via show ip route?

Any ideas why this would be the case?

Re: RIP on powerconnect 6224

Which switch is VLAN 3 on, switch 1 or 2? How are these two switches connected? Are the two switches able to communicate back and forth now?

Has VLAN 3 been made into the management VLAN? A management VLAN cannot be routed, so if VLAN 3 is your management VLAN, you would need to change it to a different VLAN.

Thanks
