S4810 port channel question

Hi,

We have 2 x S4810 switches, not stacked. There is a server with 2 NICs bonded in 802.3ad mode. em1 is connected to port 23 on the first switch and em2 is connected to port 23 on second switch. There is a port channel 6 on each switch, which contains port 23 on each switch, respectively.

Is this a valid configuration? My understanding from researching this topic is that either the 2 switches should be stacked or both NICs need to be connected to the same switch. However, I've been told that this setup was designed and implemented by Dell, so maybe I'm missing something.

Hi,

It should be fine but one of the links will be in blocked by spanning-tree.

Josh, Thank you for the response. Does this mean that only one link is active at a time? That would mean that I am not getting the the 20 GB bandwidth from this bond (10 GB from each link). So, effectively this setup is behaving like an active-passive or round-robin bond? Saurabh
