attempting to update firmware from 10...15 to 10...16 on powerconnect 5548 does not show name of uploaded file...

Hello,

this may not be a big issue, however when we try to update our switches to 10.0.16 from 15 ...we don't see the file name change and the sizes appear to match exactly with .15.  We recently did a dir and we can see the newly uploaded file, however the filename appears to change/show the same as .15 ver  that we're running.

We followed the instructions...specified the .16 file name and the switch uploads the file from our tftp server with no issue and says successful.

See dir below showing recent file upload....

Also... we cannot remove (image-2) for example as the web-interface buttons appear greyed out.  We're using the default admin password.  and the perms on the file appear to be rw per above????

Are we missing something obvious?  (we're simply wanting to download and be on the latest firmware as we're noticing network connections just dropping and the re-establishing themselves and hope this update helps.

thanks.

After updating the image did you proceed with booting to that image?

console# boot system image-1

Once you boot to the new image you should then be able to update image 2 to the new revision.

Yes I booted into the that image. (now image1 is active it was 2 before)  when I issue a show bootvar I don't see the version change however  (all still showing .15 and not .16)

dell-switch# show bootvar

Unit  Image  Filename   Version    Date                    Status

----  -----  ---------  ---------  ---------------------   -----------

1     1      image-1    4.1.0.15   20-Oct-2013  10:23:39   Active*

1     2      image-2    4.1.0.15   20-Oct-2013  10:23:39   Not active

2     1      image-1    4.1.0.15   20-Oct-2013  10:23:39   Not active

2     2      image-2    4.1.0.15   20-Oct-2013  10:23:39   Active*

"*" designates that the image was selected for the next boot

I tried to remove image-2 and then upload the file again... but the window in openmanage (via web interface into sw) but the options to alter any of the files are greyed out, however I can manage the device in other areas like copy run/start or other things.   We only have 1 account...the original admin account so it should not be a perms issue.    Is there a process to downgrade and maybe upgrade again or something else we should meaningfully try?

I would schedule some time to perform the update via the XMODEM method. XMODEM uses a serial connection and boot menu to perform the update, so you will need to schedule some downtime. The step by step instructions are included in the update guide that comes with the firmware downloaded.

Nothing like making a suggestion that is so outdated and will take forever at 9600 baud.
