Authentication fail error when instaling driver

Hi

I have have a XPS L502X.

I decided to make a clean installation based on Windows 7 Ultimate.
My problem is when I instal the driver for the "Dell Wireless HSPA 5540" it fails with then warning:

"Authentication failed. The .... driver cannot be installed on this computer...."

Do anyone have an idea how to install driver for this ?

Thanks

Regards

I fixed it using the latest driver. Took me some time to search for it, but this one should work: www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails

Hi BQJ,

Welcome to the community.

I would like to inform you that these systems generally went with the Dell Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 driver for the wireless. please try to download this driver from the below mentioned link and check if the wireless is working.

www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

Please respond in case you need any further assistance or clarification.

Thanks and Regards

Hi

Thanks for the reply and the welcome.

That driver was already installed, and as far as I understand its for the "normal" Wireless card, and that is allready working.

The Dell Wireless 5540 is for the mobile network... I think ;-)

The mobile network is not working.

In the driver download section, under my service tag, the driver listet to be instaled is this:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?DriverId=WGVYG&FileId=2935061607&productCode=xps-l502x&urlProductCode=False

According to the description its also the right driver.
But when I run the installation, I get the error "Authentication failed ........."

Now I have reinstalled the PC 2 times, in case I did something wrong, but I get the same error.
All other drivers work as they should.

Thanks for your support

BQJ

Hi BQJ,

Thanks for the reply.

It will be really great if you can tell me what kinda of mobile network you are trying to connect to. You can also check in device manager (type device manager on the search bar located in the start menu) if there are any devices with a yellow bang or a red bang under network adapters. Check the picture below.

If there are no bangs or nothing listed under other devices then the drivers are already installed and it could be some other problem. However, if there is a bang it means that driver is corrupt or not installed. Also, check if there are any application or utility that you got with the mobile service provider that you would require to connect.

I would really love to help you out with the issue.

Please respond in case you need any further assistance or clarification.

Thanks and Regards

Hi

I really
appreciate your support !

I know my way around PC's and it's clear in the device manager that there is a driver missing.

Sorry for the Danish user Interfase.

In properties it tells me that no driver is installed.

When I try to install the driver from Dell,

I get this error:

Hope this clears things a bit.

Sorry for my bad english, hope you understand.

Thanks

BQJ

Hi BQJ,

Thanks for the reply.

Issue is very clear now. Try to install the driver from the following link

www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

Seems we were installing the 5550 mini card instead of the 5540 which the system is looking for.

Hope this resolves the issue.

Please respond in case you need any further assistance or clarification.

Hi BQJ,

Thanks for the reply.

If the mobile wireless is still not working, it might be a hardware failure so for further help I would request you to add me as a friend by clicking on my name and send me an personal message with the system service tag. I would be able to investigate this issue further and will keep you updated.

Please do not post the service tag or any system details on the forum.

Please respond in case you need any further assistance or clarification.

Thanks and Regards

Hi BQJ,

Thanks for adding me as a friend and sending me the details.

After going through all the details, I feel you can take a try and update the BIOS on your system from the below mentioned link and then try installing the driver as an administrator.

BIOS: www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

Please respond in case you need any further assistance or clarification.

Hi

thanks for not giving up on this.

Your surgestion has already been tested ;-)

I updated bios as part of the reinstalation so I'm running BIOS A11.

Just to be sure I just tryed to run the driver installation as administrator again, but same result   :-(

I have exactly the same problem. Being a certified Windows systems administrator, I'm quite puzzled that it won't install.

Is there a way to unpack the executable and just manually install the driver through Device Manager?

However, on the XPS17-L702x this A12 driver for the DW5540 MBB card gets the

same Setup Error that the A11 driver gets  - ' Authentication failed. The Dell HSPA

Mini-card drivers cannot be installed on this computer. Please contact Dell Support...'

But when I used the A00 driver for the DW5541 card then it installed correctly....
