Can I uninstall Dell Mobile Broadband Card Utility?

Jump to solution

Hello.  I was having major problems with DMBCU and was told to start using Verizon's VZAccess Manager instead.  Since then, no problems with broadband connection.  The only thing is that the DMBCU sys-tray icon is still there.  It seems to have been semi-uninstalled (if that is a tech term):  I can right-click on it and a blank drop-down menu appears.  I can highlight an option, although there is no text on the menu, and select an option.  I can get the old DMBCU window to open, but with no text on the menus or action buttons.  I clicked on the old "disconnect" button, and it disconnected, but it would not let me connect again until I restarted the computer.

My question is, can I uninstall Dell Mobile Broadband Card Utility through Programs and Features in Control Panel or should I just leave it there in it's basically useless state?  Is it still serving a function?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Der Grasshuepfer,

Let's try a logical approach.

Make a system restore point.

Try uninstalling the program you wish to remove.

Restart your computer.

Now try everything and see it thing are working. If so, then it has been removed. If NOT, then use system restore and go back to the restore point. Please be patient, when using system restore. I have seen a black screen for almost 5 minutes, after login. This is normal and do NOT turn the computer off.

If you have to use system restore, you might be able to...

Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type

msconfig

Hit enter. The click onstartup. See if the DMBCU is there. If so, try unchecking it, then restart the computer. See if that helps to remove the icon. If it doesn't work, you can go back in and check the box.

Hello PUDGYONE and thanks for your response.  Logic is always good but it looks like this program is required to get a broadband connection.  I uninstalled it and got an error when VZAccess Manager tried to connect, so I had to sys-restore.  As for the msconfig, DMBCU is already unchecked!  I will just have to leave things the way they are, with the sys-tray icon there but hidden and basically useless.  Have a good one!

Just an update:  The sys-tray icon is gone!  Even though I did a sys-restore to before I uninstalled DMBCU, it is no longer listed under Programs & Features either!

Der Grasshuepfer,

Glad you figured it out! Thanks for posting back. I usually make a system restore point everytime I install programs/drivers, that way if something doesn't work correctly, I have a chance to go back to the way it was.

Take care,

Rick
