Can connect to my network but not to internet

Hey. I have had my dell inspiron e1505 since 2007. It has worked fine (minus having the motherboard replaced and having to reinstall my OS multiple times in the past). At the beginning of December, I moved to a new apartment and got Verizon internet. I have no problem connecting to the network, it says excellent strength. But my internet doesn't work. On the 'manage internet connections' page, there is a red X from network to internet. I've even tried connecting with the ethernet  cable and it still won't work!! Right now, I'm on my boyfriends HP laptop, connected to the same network and able to connect to the internet just fine. I have looked all over these forums and other forums and just can't figure out what to do. I have tried countless command prompts, but nothing will work.  Please help!!

achristy319,

Try running Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here. If using XP, then please provide an ipconfig /all log and which wireless adapter you have installed.

achristy319,

It looks like the adapter is there and connected. Can you connect when next to the wireless router?

I would check and reseat the mini card and make sure the antenna wires did not come off. Instructions HERE.

oh and I have Norton Antivirus. I have had it for probably 4 years

January 1st, 2012 07:00

Yes antenna wires were connected. I am following the directions on the link you sent... when i do iprenew/config i get a different message than the ones they have listed. mine says "no operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected." "An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Network Connection: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out." I just finished and the internet still isn't working. :( happy new year by the way!

achristy319,

Norton has been known for disabling connections.

This is for printers but allows you to get to the firewall settings to allow network access. Allow a printer past Norton

I can't find the firewall options when I go into Norton. Or the rules... I can only find the rules for the windows firewall

achristy319,

Power down your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) wait 30 second, then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)

Unplug the ethernet cable from the compter.

Restart the computer.

Can you connect wireless? If not, try running an ipconfig /all log and post back here.
