Can't connect to Internet via WIFI on my Dell Inspiron 15R (N5010)

Hi,

I recently started facing this problem. My laptop shows list of available wifi hotspots but cant connect to any wifi network.

Please note that i am using correct SSID and password.

I tried to reinstall wifi drivers and initially it solved the problem.

But it keeps coming back. This fix stopped working one day and even reinstalling the driver wont help.

Then I deleted the driver, downloaded latest drivers from dell site and installed them. It worked but again fix was not permanent.

I also tried connecting to wifi network in "safe mode with networking" but that did not work either.

Now I am not able to connect to internet via wifi and no solution seems to work.

My laptop details:

Model: Dell Inspiron N5010

OS: Windows 7 Home premium SP1

Processor: i3

RAM: 4 GB

Please help.

Re: Can't connect to Internet via WIFI on my Dell Inspiron 15R (N5010)

coffeewithsuds,

Sorry for the delay, work.

Try reading Intel® WiFi Products — Power Save Polling (PSP) causes connection issues with some access points

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Create a Power Plan

Select High performance.

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

coffeewithsuds,

What is the make and model of your wireless router?

What type of security are you using?

What channel?

Hi Rick,

I am using Beetel 450 TC1 wifi modem. My service provider is Airtel and I have been using this model for a long time now.

Security Type: WPA2-Personal

Encryption Type: TKIP

I am not sure about the channel. How do I find out?

I use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier.

Re: Can't connect to Internet via WIFI on my Dell Inspiron 15R (N5010)

Hi Rick.

Sorry for a late reply.
My laptop had been working fine all these days and suddenly the problem came back today.
I checked my wireless router settings and found that it is using channel 1 and all the settings were same as
the  Recommended Wireless Router Settingsapart from the security type that was
WPA2-PSK instead of WPA-PSK as recommended. But since it was working fine I did not change it.

I changed it today to WPA-PSK but it doesnt seem to make any difference. The problem still persists.
This has been happening for quite sometime now. No matter what i try to connect to the wifi it wont.
And suddenly out of the blue it will decide to get connected, will keep working for a while and again lost.
Its so random that I am not able to figure out what makes it connect and what causes it to not.
Please help

Re: Can't connect to Internet via WIFI on my Dell Inspiron 15R (N5010)

coffeewithsuds,

When you changed the Security, you probably should have changed the SSID to make connecting easier. I would change to channel 11 and make a new SSID.

WPA2-PSK should be fine unless you have some wireless devices, like printers, cell phones, game systems. Some of these connect with WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(Personal) better.

When there is a connection problem, usually during Electrical storms or power flickers, it messes with the wireless connection. The easy solution is usually...

  • Power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)

Restart the computer and try to connect.

What happens?
