Cannot obtain my IP address

Start, all programs, accessories, right click on command prompt, left click run as administrator. Type

netsh winsock reset catalog

This will reset the winsock catalog

I tried your suggestion. It didn't work. I checked w/ my Internet Provider and signal is strong. All other devices work. If I plug the cable from modem/router directly to my laptop, it connects to internet with no problem. 

I want to use my laptop as it was meant to be used without having to be connected to a cable.

It was fine before interruption of service...now all I get when I go into cmd ipconfig is 0.0.0.0

I am VERY "computer illiterate" Please PLEASE advise. Thanks!

Start, control panel, network and sharing center, manage wireless networks. Remove your problem network, then try to connect again. What happens?

If that does not work, Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.

What virus program and firewall are you using?

When you say "run" Finding System Information to remove PRODUCT ID & REGISTERED OWNER. I'm really getting frustrated. Um, remember I said I was computer illiterate..? But, now I'm feeling down right stupid! :( whimpering, Help.

What operating system are you using?(XP, Vista, Windows 7, 8, 8.1?) 32-bit or 64-bit

What virus program and firewall are you using?

Can you run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.

Download WinSock XP Fix

Run WinSockXPFix and restart the computer when prompted. What happens?

Avast and Windows Firewall should not be a problem, I use them too.

So, I downloaded WinSock XP Fix, installation starts and just keeps running...hours have gone by. A little ballon pops up every so often stating to the effect of "unable to connect to wireless, will keep trying"

Restart your computer.

Double click on WinSockXPFix(it should look like a red plus sign)

Click on fix. It should run for a short period, then beep and prompt you to restart your computer.

Me again. Did you give up on my dilemma?

I'm at a point to go see the Geek Squad at Best Buy, but they charge $150 to just look at it. 

It's gotta be the most inane, little something..? 

I want to get all those little double 00s turn into numbers... I need my IP WiFi address. :(

You tried Fn and F2 or just F2?

Start, control panel, network connections, right click on wireless connections, make sure you see disable. If you see enable, then enable the adapter.

Start, control panel, network connections, right click on wireless connections, left click on properties. Click on internet protocol, then click on properties. Have your settings match mine.

You should be able to see wireless networks.

Hit the windows key and the r keys at the same time. Type....

cmd

Hit enter. type

ipconfig /flushdns          (space between the g and /)

Hit enter. type

netsh winsock reset catalog

Hit enter.

Restart your computer. Can you see any wireless connections?

Yes, I do have wireless connections, always have...several, but no wireless IP address for them to connect to...just 000.000.0.0 subnet mask 000.000.000.0.
