Connected to WiFi network but limited (local) access available only

Greetings Dell support forum,

I recently took my Dell Inspiron1545 out of sleep mode and my wireless internet connection no longer works.

I have tried power cycling the 2-wire modem and the Cisco Valet router and resetting as well.  I also have another laptop and xbox that use this network and are having NO issues in connecting and working perfectly fine.

The only device not working is the Dell laptop.

I've tried removing the network profile, uninstalling the wifi driver and reinstalling after powercycling the computer and still nothing but limited connectivity only

The WLAN utility has stated that the "Gateway IP Ping" has failed

Now the laptop will connect to internet via LAN cable however will not to WiFi

I have attached the IPconfig spec sheet and hopefully somewhat can steer me in the right direction and get me back up an running.

createurf8,

The 169.154 ip address tells me that you may have a small router problem.

Power down the ISP/modem/router and your wireless router(if any). Wait 30 seconds, then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)

Restart your computer and try to connect. What happens?

Also try...

Start, control panel, device manager, double click on Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, advanced. Look for Antenna diversity. Change it from Auto to Aux.

Re: Connected to WiFi network but limited (local) access available only

Thanks rick I didn't cycle the router modem again but i went straight to your second option of setting the antenna diversity from auto to aux and it fixed the problem.

So what was the importance of making that swap?  What causes antenna diversity to change all of a sudden?

Re: Connected to WiFi network but limited (local) access available only

createurf8,

It seems that some adapters get a better signal from the Aux lead, so switching from Auto to Aux, then adapter gets a better signal.

It should keep this setting. As for powering the modem(s), this works when there are power flickers or electrical storms. This sometimes cause wireless devices to malfunction and jus power cycling them brings everything back.

Take care,

Rick
