Connection keeps dropping Windows 10 Dell XPS 8300

Hi all

I have having issues with my Dell XPS 8300, I installed the new windows 10 a few weeks back and since installing connection to the internet keeps dropping.

My internet is with Virgin Media and I connect directly via Ethernet cable to the router.

My network card says Broadcom Netlink gigabit Ethernet

After doing some looking I think my card is called BCM57788

Glad to hear I'm not on my lonesome.

I did as you did, and downloaded the Intel scanner from their site. The only thing that this told me was that I need a later .INF file.

I've also looked at the Dell Drivers page, which is no way up to date. The Intel reported update isn't listed, but there is a BIOS update, which when I try to apply it, tells me that it's older than the current version. Not very helpful.

I would install the Intel update but I'm not sure whether it will work. There are plenty of caveats there, but not much reassurance.

To crown it all, Dell haven't done anything to see if my machine is fit for Win 10.

As usual, Dell are completely behind the curve on this.

I too have a UK Dell XPS8300, and my Windows 10 tray message from Microsoft tells me that they are still working to ensure that my machine is compatible and that I will be informed when it is. (see attached snip).

I'm going to wait and perhaps I'll upgrade from Win 7 Ultimate if ALL Dell problems are resolved, but quite possibly I won't.

Given the enormous connectivity problems with all sorts of Dell machines and Win 10, it's probably a driver problem. The difficulty that people seem to have is "chicken and egg", in that to resolve problems they need to be able to connect and download things, but because the system can't connect they can't download.

I'd very much like to know how this goes with you.

I'm surprised.

Since Windows Update some time ago, when the "sign on for Win 10 update" became active, the Window icon has appeared in my system tray (see attached).

The message I posted previously appears when I double click the tray icon. Moving to the next screen, it tells me that I don't have Intel drivers for this system (see other screen snip).

The upshot is that even if I wanted 10 on this XPS 8300, Microsoft will not serve it to me via updates until these problems are sorted.

Perhaps you installed the preview version?

I'm having exactly the same experience where a message says: "Contact Intel for more information".

So last night I did just that and allowed them to scan my Latitude E6450 for drivers. The scan concluded that my Graphics drivers had been altered in some way by the device manufacturers who should be able to take over and rectify the problem.  Following this, I went to the DELL download section but must confess that I was daunted by the proliferation of driver updates.

As things stand, although DELL state that my laptop is ready for the Win10 upgrade it patently fails to comply on the issue of drivers.

My Latitude is 16 months old, running perfectly well on Win7 Pro.  I ask myself if I really want to upgrade (even if it were possible at the mo) especially when I read the myriad of problems reported in this forum.....hmm, the jury is still out on this one emoticon.Confused.title

Is your dell still using the original network card that is was shipped with?

And if so what make is the card?
