DHCP Client not starting with system error 5 access denied message

I have Dell Inspiron 15 3520 laptop bought in December 2012 with Windows 8 Pro. It was working fine until two days ago. I am unable to obtain DHCP lease either through wireless or wired network. After troubleshooting, I found DHCP service is not running and try to restart but of no avail.

I ran sfc /scannow and the results are OK.

Any help is greatly appreciated. The only recourse I am thinking is to call Dell support and reinstall Windows 8.

Thanks.

Hi Emerald18,

You may try disabling the firewall temporarily to see if that is blocking the network connection.

You may also try performing a System Restore to take the system back to time when it was working fine. You can find the steps on the link below:

You may try using the system in Safe Mode with Networking and check if the system works fine there. Steps to boot the system in Safe Mode with Networking in Windows 8 are listed on the link below:

If the system works fine in Safe Mode with Networking, the issue should be related to Windows corruption. It would be better to Refresh the system than to reinstall the Windows. Steps to Refresh Windows 8 PC are also available on the link listed for System Restore.

Note: Make sure that you backup the important data before you refresh the system.

Thanks for your suggestions. Dell Support told me to reinstall Windows 8 from Dell Recovery and now it is working.
