Dell Control Point Connection Manager
I currently am having a problem getting my daughter's E5500 Latitude Laptop working with respect to the Dell Connection Manager software to get a wireless connection. I had a Dell Representative do a remote connect into the laptop to see if the software and drivers were setup and the support rep said everything looks fine. When I try to troubleshoot and check the connection diagnostics the following checks all fail......Local IP Adress Test......Gateway IP Ping Test.... DNS IP Ping Test.........and Internet Website Domain Ping Test. She even sent me a link to redownload the software but it continues to fail
The following questions are grayed out and cannot be clicked on for additional help......Why can't I find any wireless networks?....Why can't I connect to a wireless network?
Upon researching Journal ID 101406TFLO Article ID 344339 following the steps suggested in this document have failed therefore advising me to contact Technical Support.
In the meantime I have disabled this software in services.msc and have enable Windows to control the wireless functions of the laptop. My question is and I am just asking for opinions is Should I continue to use Windows for controlling the wireless functions or should I get Technical Support to figure out why the Dell software is not working?
Thank you for your time.

Tom- I just went through sort of the same thing with my E6500 running Win7Pro 32 bit. I decided to uninstall the total ControlPoint SW package and let Win7 control the wireless and it is working great. My recommendation- stick with Windows control and leave ControlPoint off and you will be better off.
All the best

I'm having the same issue; I continue to get disconnected from my wireless network and am very close to chucking my BRAND NEW e6500 out the window, it's VERY frustrating. I've been disconnected while writing this reply 3 times...
If I uninstall the Dell ControlPoint, will my Windows automatically manage my wireless network or is there something else I have to do in order to control it?
Thank you,
Hopefully I'll be able to get back on the internet to retrieve responses.

Steve,
Thanks for your reply. Dell Wireless Support department advised me to go with Windows control.

Lauren,
Dell Wireless support advised me to go with Windows to control the wireless. You may not necessarily have to uninstall DCP but it needs to be turned off. I don't know what type of OS is on your computer, but I found information from Microsoft Support article KB968682 that guided me to get Window to control the wireless connection.
Good Luck

While I agree you can turn off the Connection Manager one of a number of ways (e.g.- disabling it in connection manager, stopping the service), I would recommend uninstalling all of it personally. I have found my E6500 Win7Pro machine now runs faster, no dropped connections and my ethernet adapter works now, whereas it did not with CP installed. If you like some of the stuff CP provides, like the security and fingerprint recognition, then uninstall the connection manager only but to me the juice isn't worth the squeeze - i have found third party apps that do everything (but I admit I do not have the fingerprint reader) that all the CP functions provide.
My 2¢

After looking at the ten (10) ControlPoint Connection Manager files for Windows Vista 64-bit located on the Dell 'Drivers & downloads' page at: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/servicetag/3D9FVL1/drivers , I decided to come and check the Forums before continuing to download them.
At this point the only question I am left wondering is whether ANY of the ControlPoint files such as the 'WLAN Driver Pack' (127 MB) would even be needed or if Windows is capable of doing it all?
For reference, I did locate the following Windows Vista page regarding connecting to a wireless network: (its pretty basic)

VAVB05_Site_Rep,
If memory serves me correctly, Dell Control Point is not needed.
How can I disable wireless configuration services and enable the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration services
How to start Wireless Zero Configuration using Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8
Read THIS THREAD, It has the downloads for some Dell Control Vault files. The Vista 64-bit drivers should work for Windows 7 and above if installed in the Vista Compatibility mode
