Dell Inspiron 15 5577 will not connect to Wi-Fi.

Thought it was because I updated windows before dell, connected to a wi-fi usb and downloaded relevant updates from the dell website but still does not connect. We tried ethernet cable but that doesn't work either. We're thinking it's a hardware issue?
