Dell Inspiron 1525 SIM Card slot

Can anyone enlighten me please?? Ive got a insp1525 with a SIM card slot behind the battery. What do i need to get or how can i make this work so i dont need to keep plugging in a modem.. Seems pointless to have it there if it doesnt work.....
