Dell Inspiron 1525 Windows Vista - Limited Network Connectivity- nointernet

Hello,

I am facing problem with my Dell Inspiron Laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium32bit.

Everything was working fine, recently I cleared  a malware from windows security essentials, after that  the network connection is always showing limited connectivity, for all types of connections,  Ethernet, WiFi, USB tethering etc. There is no problem with the router. I hv verified with many working connections.

I did try following:
Uninstalling security essentials
Disable enable network interface.
netsh Winsock reset & other commands.
uninstalling network drivers.
deleting regedit Winsock entries.
Reinstalling drivers.
Running sfc /scannon
Trying windows diagnostics tool
Disabling ipv6.

But afer all this the issue still exists. In sfc scan logs, CBS.log it shows some error messages such as  failed to repair Winsock-core. Looks like the Winsock is corrupted. I have already tried uninstalling the drivers, deleting winscock entries from regedit and then adding them. Nothing helps. I cant find the Winsock drivers for download.

Can please help me how I can fix this. Please note that no internet connectionis working with the system. Hence I need to copy any required files through external strorage memory.

Many thanks

Yes, I did the re-installation of Windows Vista using the OS CD that came along with the laptop & installed the device drivers using the drivers CD. Now the Network connectivity is working  fine!

Though I backed up my data it is not required as the re-installation didn't format my disk. It copied old 'windows' folder to a folder names windows-old' and then all remaining folders we kept intact.

Cheers!

Hi,

Welcome to the community

Can you check if you can connect via safe mode with networking? Restart the computer, on Dell logo keep tapping F8. Choose safe mode with networking. Try connecting. You can use either wireless or ethernet within safe mode.

Have you tried ipconfig /flushdns  ?

Let me know of the results. Thank you.

Hi Elijah,

Thanks for the reply. I had already tried connecting in Safe mode with Networking. Same issue exists there, limited connectivity. Other thing I forgot to mention is my conexant modem has issues, if I enable the Telephony service under msconfig, then after booting it displays blue screen error. Hence I hv kept it disabled. I hope this is used only for dialup connection and doesn't affect Ethernet or WiFi.

I hv also tried flush DNS commands, but no use.

Thanks..

Who is your Internet Service Provider? Is it Cable or DSL? If cable, you need to reconfigure the IP Configuration with your ISP.

There is no IP configuration required.

1. I have tried with LAN connection which uses DHCP (Connection to other PC/laptops work fine)

2. I have tried with wifi hot-spot from my mobile, which again uses DHCP, (Connection with other devices works fine)

3. I have tried USB tethering from my mobile (Connection to other PCs works fine)

Hence I think its not an issue with the ISP connection or configurations on laptop, rather some issue with the OS services/drivers.

Below are the CBS error logs I have received after running SFC /scannow (I have run the scan in both normal and safe mode, as an admin from cmd prompt).  Please check if they are useful.

Thanks...

I see. It sounds like you need to re-format the computer and re-install windows. You need to back up your files.

Yeah, all troubleshooting steps are done. So probably you need to do the re-installation. Post back here in our community for any other issues or concerns.
