Dell Studio 1555 Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN stopped working

OK, I have exhausted all routes available (more so known) to me so I am seeking some expert advice.

I have a Dell Studio 1555 running Windows 7 32 bit.

Wireless was working fine, then the other day, it stopped working.

It sees my network, sometimes it doesn't. It tries to connect, asking for the key, but after entering, it says it can't connect. My network is fine as I am using it right now and my phones and tablet are all connected and working fine. The 1555 connects using the ethernet cable.

I have disabled and re-enabled the adapter. I have run the troubleshooter countless times, with the same outcome - Problem with wireless adapter or access point. It stops there with no further suggestions.

I have run the full Dell diagnostics from their support page, it actually says that my wireless network card is working fine.???

Unfortunately on the Dell Support pages, there are no drivers for Windows 7 32 bit ???????

I spoke with Microsoft support who told me to talk to Dell support. Speaking to Dell support they advised to run the full diagnostic on their support page (which ran with all passes). When I questioned about the windows 7 32 bit drivers, he said to try the Vista 32 bit drivers - "they should work as it is the same architecture" - of course it wouldn't load!

I have then gone to Intel and downloaded latest Wireless drivers for the 5100 (Wireless_16.7.0_s32) Installed it, re-started the laptop, tried to connect, same story.

So now I am asking for HELP!!!!

Many Thanks in advance.

RE: Dell Studio 1555 Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN stopped working

stewarttv72,

Try the settings below to see if they will help resolve the issue with the wifi card.

Set CAM using network control panel applet (NCPA)

Put the wireless adapter into continuously aware mode using the following steps:
Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
Double-click Network Connections.
Right-click the wireless connection and click Properties.
Click Configure.
Click the Advanced tab.
Select the Power Management setting, uncheck Default / Auto, and move the slider to Highest / Maximum Performance.

Step 2.

Change the Wireless adapter settings in power options, to ‘Maximum Performance’ on Battery Mode.

Click the link for more information on resolving this issue with the Intel Wireless Card.

Hi Jesse

Thanks for the prompt response. I tried what you suggested with no success.

Not sure how to private message you. I have sent through a friend request assuming we have to be friends before I can private message you?

If I am missing something, please let me know.

Stewart,

While you contact Jesse, click on the Blue Dell-Jesse, on the next page send private message.

Here is what My Intel WiFi 5100 AGN Connectivity Settings were when I had this adapter. Never got to use the 5.0GHz on this wireless adapter. I used these Recommended Wireless Router Settings and used channel 11 on my wireless router.

Try these tweaks....

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Windows and x keys at the same time, power options, choose when to turn off the display, change advanced power settings. Change the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

RE: Dell Studio 1555 Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN stopped working

Stewart,

The system I had, before it was stolen, the operating system was Vista 32-bit. I then upgraded to Winows 7. I installed the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode

Not sure these Vista 32-bit drivers will install or not.

Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 Half Mini Card and Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 Half Mini Card on Windows Vista 3...

Make a system restore point.

Start, control panel, device manager, network adapters, right click on the Intel 5100, left click uninstall.

Tell it to remove the drivers and software.

Restart your computer. When you login, the new hardware wizard will try to install the drivers. See if those drivers work or not. If not, then try to install the Vista drivers in the Vista SP2 compatibility mode. Remember to use the tweaks above.

If using McAfee, you may want to uninstall it to see that it is not blocking the connection. If using Norton, if the definations are out-dated, it may block your connection.
