I installed the Windows 7 upgrade last night by doing the following:-
1. Run the assistant until it asked me to remove the Wireless utility.
2. I DID NOT remove the utility and took out the assistant disc.
3. I uninstallled Zonealarm (the window 7 set up will not proceed with this installed)
4. I then ran the update disc, and everything worked perfect, wireless internet connection was retained throughout the procedure and was fully functioning once the upgrade had completed.
The machine this was carried out on was the Dell Studion Hybrid.
Hope this helps some one.
I googled around. My daughter had the same problem with her Dell Inspiron 1564 laptop. This problem has not been all the time. The last months it has become worse.
I did the following:
In msconfig I configured failsafe start with network.
The problem with WLAN disappeared when I did this.
Before uninstalling Dell WLAN utility i started Windows 7 in
failsafe mode with minumum drivers/utilities so that no network was used
and I could do uninstall.
Uninstall of Dell WLAN Utility.
I then directly configured msconfig to do a normal start.
Everything was OK after the first restart. Windows 7 took
care of WLAN configuration.
I think the reason for failure was some updates during the last
months that somehow caused a conflict during normal use.
Dells WLAN utility is not necessary.
