Yes, you will lose your internet connection when you agree to do the uninstall of the WLAN card utility software.

When Windows 7 boots up, it will automatically take over the wireless connection. You won't even need to re-enter your wireless network password (if you had it set to automatically log you on before, that is.)

OK so I decided to go ahead and go for it and this is the message I received:  The Removal of Dell Wireless WLAN Card cannot continue do to error code:
C:\build\PBR_REL_5_10_38_30\win_external_wl\src\tools\install\app\bc\mwls\Update.cpp.58

Then another screen pops up saying "Dell wireless WLAN card uninstall has stopped working".

The Upgrade Assistant disc won't let me go any further.  I don't have a clue as to what to do next!

Thanks again!

It could be because the program is in use.

Two things to try. First boot into Safe mode and uninstall the utility there.

another option to try is to reinstall the program and then go into safe mode to uninstall it .

Yes you will lose wireless as the utility will install/uninstall the wireless driver as part of the program install/uninstall. This is normal.

What OS did you install? What card do you have?

Go HERE select the version of OS if you have win 7 x64 select that one if you have win 7 32 bit use the vista 32 bit selection. then go down the network listing and download the driver for your wireless card.  Do not use the download manager. Select the option to download using the web browser.

I uninstalled the utility called Quickset) but then had to wire-connect to the internet.

There were one or 2 funky things but I was able to figure them out intuitively.

You can't do the upgrade on battery power so be ready to plug in.

The WINDOWS 7 upgrade disk took care of finding the wiireless driver.

Hi there

I too have experienced exactly the same problem.  As far as I can tell there are no updates yet available for this driver which would make it compatible with Windows 7.  I have scoured the net for hours and Dell's website for updates and found none.  Obviously, if the driver is removed you will have no wireless internet.  Someone suggested uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it in compatibiliy mode after installing Win 7.  You could give it a try.

When i tried to upgrade to Windows 7, the Upgrade manager specifically said there were no compatible updates for this driver available and to try getting them directly from the vendor.  Dell do not have any updates for this driver to make it compatible with Win 7 so how did you find them?  Many other people are experiencing the same problem as myself and if it was as simple as the Upgrade Manager finding the updates, then none of us would be having this problem.  Do we have to uninstall the wireless driver and set up a wired connection?  I'm assuming you mean the Upgrade Manager found the updates for the wired connection not the wireless.

Don't worry.  I did exactly the same thing initially.  Get your driver installation disk and reinstall your driver to obtain your wireless connection again.  Just insert your disk and follow the on screen instructions.  Easy.  Unless you want a wired connection with Windows 7,  you'll find Dell haven't provided any updates for this driver on their website and I haven't been able to find any elsewhere.
