Error 105, no wireless service

Jump to solution

Hi, I've been using my Dell Inspiron B130 wireless for quite some time when all of a sudden I received the following message, Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): The server could not be found.

I am connected to my wireless network, and can see other networks as well. I've checked in device manager and I have no yellow triangles with exclamation marks over any equipment, I have reseated the network card and I can connect via ethernet wire. No browser on my laptop will work.

I have run all the possible updates/downloads, etc, etc

I have a broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller and Dell wireless 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI card. Please help!

Mahalo!

jonathan_g,

Did you recently install the operating system?

Is the wireless adapter enabled in the BIOS, press F2 at startup?

Is the 1370 adapter enabled in the device manager?

You have the adapter turned on by pressing Fn and F2? Is the green light on for the adapter in the bottom left corner?

 jonathan_g,

Go to device manager, network, 1370 network adapter, advanced. Look for Antenna Diversity. Somw adapters have this and some don't. Change it from Auto to Aux.

Place the computer next to the wireless router. See if it sees your network and connects.

What settings are you using in your wireless router? I recommend using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11.

How to repair a connection

jonathan_g,

Some people think it has something to do with Google Chrome. In the thread I found, I also found this...

Click Start =>Run, type in CMD, press OK.

Copy and paste this into the Command prompt:

netsh winsock reset catalog

Press Enter

Then copy and paste this in:

netsh int ip reset reset.log

Press Enter.

When finished restart your computer.

Rick! It worked, I think. I want to try this in a few other wireless locations, but I think this worked!

What issue was this resolving? What did running that command do? Thanks

 jonathan_g,

The commands reset your winsoch and also reset your ip.

Something that I think WinSock XP Fix could have done.

Let me know what happens.
