Hard-wired Internet Connection
Hi,
I have several Inspiron 6000 laptops connected to a work network...all are fine except 1. Here is what is happening:
The wireless connection works fine by itself, I'm able to connect to our LAN and the internet.
The hard-wired connection is able to connect to the LAN but not the internet (IE 7...also tried Firefox). No difference if the Windows firewall is on or off or if the Virus Scan is enabled/disabled.
When I hard-wired the laptop, the wireless no longer works.
Our network uses DHCP and I have checked all the settings (subnet, default gateway, DHCP server, DNS) and all seems to be well. An IP is being assigned to both the wireless and the wired cards.
I'm using XP Pro SP 2 and IE 7. I have reset the Winsock catalog (that didn't help).
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, I am not an IT person, I have googled and gone to the Micrsoft website to try and resolve this.
Thanks, Barb

To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then hit the enter key. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the Enter key. Copy the output of that command to a reply to this message and we can go from there.

Hi All,
I have exactly the same problem, only I use Window 7 Professional, my laptop is Dell Studio XPS 1340 P9400.
I tried already to uninstall and reinstall the network driver, one downloaded from Dell page, one from Nvidia (network card is from Nvidia) but not working at all.
This is happening at office, where we have internet through switch, at home I use ADSL modem without any problem.
The DNS server address I did try some as consultation from internet but never work.
I did try restart the switch/ ADSL modem (at office) and no work.
This thing just happening in the last few days, before it's the same office, no problem, the ADSL modem is controled by IT and they said nothing change of the configuration.
Thanks for helping in this issue. Here in bellow is IPconfig /all result:
1st Case: using the Wireless connection without any problem

minhlhks,
Did you install Windows 7 Profeccional yourself? If so, did you install the drivers in order? How to Install Drivers in Microsoft® Windows® on Dell Systems If you cannot find Windows 7 drivers, did you try installing the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode?
Right click on the drivers file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista. Then right click on the drivers, left click run as administrator.
