Inspiron 15 and using 802.11n standards?

Hi all, recently bought the above laptop and connected it up to my router (BT HomeHub 3 in the UK) and also to my new XBOX360, now when I connect the XBOX to my home network on Windows 7, the XBOX advises that my connection is not using 802.11n but 802.11b/g?   Checked and my Hub is defaulted to 802.11n/b/g so I presume it's my laptop which is not using the n standard?  Is there any way to check this or amend it?  I had maybe wrongly presumed all my equipment would just default to use the N standard as it's included in all 3 devices.

spendleb,

On the computer that the xBox is connected, try running Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here.

Re: Inspiron 15 and using 802.11n standards?

Simon,

From what I am reading, the Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter works on the 2.4GHz ONLY. What places call wireless N standards are different. You have to read closely to if the wireless adapter will work on both the 2.4GHz and the 5.8GHz frequencies.

The Atheros AR9285, our 4th generation, highly integrated solution targeting the value computing market. The AR9285 integrates a complete WLAN solution – media access controller (MAC), baseband, and a high-performance 2.4 GHz radio in a low-cost digital CMOS design.

If everyone used the IEEE 802.11 - Wikipedia standards, then Wireless N would mean 5.8GHz, but they don't
