Inspiron 2200

I have a dell Inspiron 2200 laptop. When I reinstalled my operating system after a system crash (windows XP) I could not get a connection in internet explorer. There seems to be nothing in the network connections window. I know I am on an ethernet network.

The network and internet connections "wizards" did not help. When I click
"setup or change your internet connection" all I get is setup for a telephone modem. Then if I close that window I get:

"Set up a home or small office network" (selected)
Completing the New Connection Wizard (finish button)
Then I get (message):
"Cannot complete the network setup wizard. The Wizard cannot find your network hardware.
Before using this wizard, you must first install and configure your network cards, modems, cables and device drivers."

(What do I need to do? - This is a second hand computer and I'm using the disk that came with the computer)

After reinstallation of Windows you need to install the drivers in the proper order, as has been stated in hundreds of messages on this forum).  In particular, you need to install the Notebook System Software and chipset drivers before even attempting to install the other device drivers.
