Checking the original system configuration using your service tag indicates that you probably have the Boadcom 440x integrated controller. The drivers for that are at:
If you ordered the Broadcom 570x Gigabit controller as an option (not indicated by the original system configuration, but possible), the drivers for that are at:
I do have the Boadcom 440x controller and I've already installed the driver from Dell's support site, but the driver isn't installing properly. After I run the driver setup, the ethernet controller still doesn't recognize the driver; it's almost as though the driver installation isn't working properly. What do I do if Dell's driver software isn't working?
that was a great suggestion......but it still didn't recognize the driver.......is there anything that could be conflicting with the driver install? I can't think of anything else that might resolve this issue.
Make sure that the network controller is enabled in the BIOS. If it is, does the ethernet adapter show up in Device Manager? If so, try removing it from Device Manager, rebooting, then reinstalling the driver.
the network controller is enabled in the BIOS, and the ethernet adapter does show up in Device manager. I then uninstalled the ethernet adapter, rebooted, then tried to reinstall the driver, but the same thing occurs...the driver set up doesn't seem to finish installing....it gets part of the way through installation then disappears..........
Does Device Manager indicate problems with the device after your attempts to install the drivers? What happens if you try manually install the drivers through device manager and pointing to the driver installation file in the folder where the downloaded drivers were decompressed?
Yes, device manager does indicate problems with the device after I attempt to install the drivers....it states there is no driver for the device. I've tried to manual driver installation through device manager and I get the same issue. I think I've tried just about everything I can.........after I've exhausted all possibilities, what do I do next?
Everything is pointing to a bad network controller. Since it is integrated on the motherboard, you will have call Dell Technical Support. Hopefully you are still under Warranty.
just for fun try the gigabit drivers in case you are mistake about which you have? also, press F12 at the dell screen, select diagnostics, and run any tests you can on the network adapter.
I am having the exact same issue with my Ethernet connection after a Windows XP reinstall. I went thru the same steps as you with no luck. Dell claims that it is a software issue and not hardware related but I disagree. Have you had any resolution?
