To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type
cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type
ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.
Do you have an internet access/router that only allows a maximum amount of users to be connected to the rotuer at a time? And when you do the
ipconfig do you get an ip address of something like: 192.168.1.102 (not exactly the same but similar)? and the default gateway, 192.168.1.1 (similar but might not be the same)? If you are, then you are connected to the router, but something else is going on.
-Can you connect to other routers/access points fine?
-Have you updated your wireless driver from the drivers and downloads section?
-Can you call your router manufactuer and ask them to help you with a firmware update? (If you call them, then I think they might support the router in case it breaks while flashing or something.)
-Are you able to connect to an ethernet connection through the router?
If you are getting that IP address, that means you are connected to the router. Take that default gateway, punch it in the address bar of internet explorer and see if you get a login screen to your router. If you log in, then you can view/change the settings to see why you cant get on but others can. Check to see if there is a limit on how many can be connected to the wireless network. Have some of your friends turn off their computers and see if you can log on when they arnt connected to it, power cycle it after they disconnect. Also, check the manufactuers site to see if a new firmware is availible for the router and if it might solve your problem.
Yes, when I check the IP address it shows something like what you said. Even the default gateway... But I am not able to connect to the internet. All of my friends have no trouble connecting.
I asked you to post the output of the ipconfig output for a very good reason. If you choose to follow the advice of the person who so rudely jumped in here, then go ahead. I will no longer follow the thread.
I thought I said to check and then post what you saw. I guess I forgot. I didnt mean to rudly interrupt, but I thought a little more description would help them better. If you post your output when you get some time, we can examine the situation better.
hello steve how are you? I've same wi-fi problem in my inspirion 6400 notebook. I did your recommendation(run->cmd->ipconfig/all) so after this steps.what should I do?can you please help me? if you're concerning with this I can copy output to send you.thanks have good day.
Does the connection say Limited or No connectivity? Are you able to pull an ip address? Can you check to make sure DHCP is enabled on the wireless connection. This is how:
Goto Start > Control Panel > Network connections. Right click on the wireless connection and select properties. When the properties window comes up. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list that pops up with properties (you may have to scroll down). And then click on that, if the TCP/IP properties dont come up, then click the properties button to the bottom right of TCP/IP. Then make that automattically obtain an IP address, DNS, and APIPA is selected. This is insuring that you are connecting to the router fine.
Can you connect to the router through a wired connection? If you can, connect in, find your default gateway by putting ipconfig in command prompt and then take that gateway. Stick it in Internet Explorer and log into your router. If you havnt changed the password or you know it, log on, if not call and goto your routers manufactures website and find the default password for the router. Log in, and check the settings making sure everything is set. DHCP, no wireless mac filter that is blocking you.
hit start button, select "
run" then in the textbox type "
cmd" and hit ok. When the dos screen pops up type
ipconfig /all >>dcfconfig.txt then hit enter. Then type
dcfconfig.txt and hit enter. Notepad will popup with the results. Copy them and post onto the thread for your problem.
This will provide us with network settings that we can use to help debug the problem, it does not provide info people reading this post can use to get into your system
Thanks for all your suggestions. I spoke to DELL customer service and got my wireless card replaced... it is working fine with one issue. For a particular website, it is not working properly. In that site, I am trying to view some streaming videos... My connection speed is good and even I tested the same website in my friends laptop and its working fine. Only in my laptop it is not streaming properly and every now and then it goes to bufferring state. Any ideas to resolve this issue?
