Intel 3945ABG Wireless Card Not Working?

I have an Inspiron E1405 with an Intel 3945ABG Wireless Adapter, Windows Vista 32bit (Not sure what other info about my system I would need to offer here).

The wireless internet worked fine for a long time (years) then one day just started going in and out randomly.  I tried uninstalling and installing all Networking Drivers, which didn't make any changes.  I then read somewhere to do a Netsh Winsock Reset, I did that and it worked awesome for about a month.  It started going in and out again last week.  I tried rolling back to the previous version of my wireless driver, but it worked a little better at first and then went right back to the same behavior.  A friend of mine is more tech savvy, had me download and run CCleaner, and uninstall and reinstall my drivers for the wireless adapter and Service Pack.  I used to be able to get the wireless to connect if I rebooted my system and it would work momentarily.  Now it doesn't work at all and if it connects it's only for a few seconds.  I can't even find my home network right now and I'm about 15 ft. from the Router (Which I just replaced, thinking it was the issue, got a brand new Linksys 160N).

I'm about to throw this laptop out the window because I'm sick of sitting here for two days trying to fix this stupid thing so I can get back to work.  Any help is much appreciated!!!

maldonado226,

You can try using Winsock2 How to determine and to recover from Winsock2 corruption in Windows Server 2003, in Windows... or try running

WinSock XP Fix

Also try updating the drivers at...

Intel® Driver Update Utility for Intel® wireless adapters

Wireless cards do go out. The wireless card in my daughters HP Laptop went out in a little over a year.

Re: Intel 3945ABG Wireless Card Not Working?

Hello Rick,

Thank you for the tips.  Strange enough my laptop connected to the wireless network today about 3 hours ago.  I've been working since with no issues.  If it goes out again, which I'm anticipating it will, I'll try all of your ideas.  I'll keep you posted.  Thanks again.

Re: Intel 3945ABG Wireless Card Not Working?

nishadht,

At one time, there was an issue with the 1390 connecting to WPA-PSK Networks. Did you try WPA2? Also not sure if the issue was every corrected. Here is a thread but please remember that Larry no longer works for Dell. I think you might do better posting a new thread.

. 1390 wireless incompatibility with WPA-PSK (WPA-TPIK) - DELL COMMUNITY Not sure if the solution is there or not.

nishadht,

Just read the thread and it seems that if you change the Antenna Diversity in the device manager from Auto to AUX it fixes the issue.
