Intel Proset Wireless is not saving profiles.
Hello,
I have a Latitude E5400, windows Xp, 4 Gig Ram, 60 Gig Hd free. with Intel Wireless Proset for the internal INtel WiFi Link 5100 AGN. I actually had the same problem with a Latitude D630. I seem to the only one in my company with this issue.
We have several of the same laptops configured with the same hardware. Due to the company's choice of wireless security using "Let Windows Manage my wifi" is not an option. we are using certificate security.
The issue is that my wireless profiles do not get saved after a reboot. As a workaround I have saved my profiles into files and have a batch file copy them over to the C:\program files\intel\wifi\autoimport however I must then always re-type my username and password. every day.
I've done some internet seraching and found that a suggestion to
The quick answer, delete the corrupted database in your current user account (located at C:\Documents and Settings\
Steps:
1) Disable the Intel PROset/Wireless software (set it to let Windows manage the wireless connection).
2) Go to the folder mentioned above and delete the profile.enc and profile.enc.bak files.
3) Enable the Intel PROset/Wireless software.
Notes:
===== The Intel wireless management software apparently uses the MAC address of your NIC when encrypting the profile database. When I had a mainboard problem (my tech support broke and had to replace my mainboard), the integrated WiFi card on the new board naturally had a new MAC address. This is when my problems began. Profiles previously existing would not display but could not be replaced and new profiles could not be created. Note that uninstalling the software does not delete the profile database file. Thus, installing a newer version of the software will not resolve your problem. By following the steps above I was able to create profiles again without issues. Hope that helps someone!
I've tried this and it does not help my situation. the only thing I can think that is likely unique to my situation, but yet if i try to reboot in the same location still doesn't resolve my issue is that my job provided a docking station and since I don't want to keep plugging and unplugging cords, went out and bought an identical docking station for home. With the E5400, the docks no longer have a MAC address of their own and I don't think should be a factor in this issue. but it's the only unique thing. I'm 98% sure that my problem existed before i got the 2nd dock. I got my laptop, configured it and got my fdock in less than 1 week.
Any help is greatly appreciated as having to tpye this in every day is really getting old.
Thanks,
Neil

Hello,
Thanks for this post. solved my problem too. I figured out that the profile database was corrupt, but had no idea where to find it and how to fix it.
Is there a way to fix the database instead of deleting it? Had quite a lot of profiles. A petty that they're all lost.
kind regards an thanks again,
bart

Sadly no, my understanding was that it must be deleted as it's a corruption in the encryption. But unfortunately for me, I'm stuck, every day i still must re-enter my credentials as they don't survive. :emotion-6:
For now I just save my profiles to an alternate directory c:\_junk\ and have a batch file i launch to copy them to "c:\Program Files\Intel\WiFi\AutoImport". With this the wifi has most of what it needs then depending on what network i'm near. My profile for my network at my house just works after the copy since it's just WPA, but the one for my work requires my network login/pw which is not saved within a saved profile so when it detects it, i get a username/pw prompt which is tolerable. If it worked properly then it wouldn't prompt as that would be saved within the database since it's encrypted, which would be preferred.

This solution works on my Dell with Windows 7
Delete the corrupted database in your current user account:
Database is located at: %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Intel\Wireless\WLANProfiles\
Steps:
1) Disable the Intel PROset/Wireless software (set it to let Windows manage the wireless connection).
2) Go to the folder mentioned above and delete the profile.enc and profile.enc.bak files.
3) Enable the Intel PROset/Wireless software.
