Internet Connection

I have a dell wireless 1397card.  Having problems connecting to internet.  I am able to connect to wireless network but no internet connection.  It has worked successfully all times before (2 years) but now will not connect.  Only troubleshoot suggestion is to power down router but issue is that every other wireless device will connect.  No changes on the computer but no connection.  Suggestions

I'm having this same problem now.. mine's a Dell Wireless 1703

bought the dell XPS 8500 in June, been working fine till today, all the sudden I have no internet access. It connects, but no internet access.

Trouble shoot does the check, resets and asks me to disable firewall. Tried it, no difference. I have even rebooted my modem. Nothing for the Dell.

Every other device at home works i.e. other PCs, smartphones, etc. I have to use another laptop now to get online help.

What's up, Dell???

And today's a public holiday here, no calls will be entertained.

I just bought this thing in June and I ran the warranty check, the site says out of warranty?!? what the hell?!?! I can't even EMAIL for support now!

My issue had solved!

Culprit could be the recent update of realtek.

I restore in safe mode and now all works fine.

I am having the same trouble. I had to run a system restore. Once I did that, I was able to connect to the Internet again. I am running McAfee Security. There seems to be some conflict between Dell computers and one of the latest McAfee updates. As soon as the update installs, I can't connect to the Internet. I'm still trying to resolve the issue, checking these forums, etc. Also, I am trying to block the McAfee update from installing AGAIN until I can find a solution--or DELL and McAfee get their act together.

omigosh.. sigh.. i use mcafee too :/

i don't like the idea of doing system restore as i dont back up often and i dont know what data i'll "lose" if i restore...

what happens if i uninstall mcafee? :P heh.... use something else perhaps...

call mcafee...fixed it for me.  They're overflowing with calls because of issue.  Updates are culprits.

Rodnccd,

Start, control panel, device manager, network, double click on Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Half Mini Card, click on advanced. Look for antenna diversity. Change it from Auto to Aux.

Also click on the power management tab and uncheck the box, allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

ericmia,

Glad you got it working! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back. Heard there was an McAfee Update that caused the connection problems.

Take care,

Rick

Hi

Thanks for the responses.  I did a system restore as suggested by several and it worked.  I too have McAfee, so maybe the problem was there.

Had the same issues with internet connection suddenly gone after it had worked a few hours earlier.  Removed McAfee, rebooted, and internet connection is back working - yay!  McAfee needs to fix the issue!
