Internet Download Speed

I have a netgear rangemax wireless-N router.

I have an Alienware M15x running Windows 7 that is connecting with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN.

I also have a Dell Studio 1535 running XP that is connecting Dell Wireless 1397.

Under the same physical conditions I have run http://speedtest.net.

With My Dell Studio I get decent performance:

Ping: 67ms

Download: 10.78mb/s

Upload: 2.34mb/s

With my (really expensive) Alienware i get aweful results:

Ping: 109ms

Download: 0.59mb/s

Upload: 2.70mb/s

I have run these test over and over to similar results.  You will notice that the upload speeds are similar between both machines.  I have run diagnostics and attempted to update drivers, run system scans etc..  Everything tells me the machine is working fine.

Please help.  Are there known issues with this hardware?  Why only download speed affected.  Are there settings to limit download speeds?  I am at my wits end.

Thanks for any help in advance...

Re: Internet Download Speed

Researching MTU settings.  The correct MTU without packet fragmenting is 1300.  My ipv4 mtu is set correctly.  My ipv6 mtu is set to 1500.  Should these both be the same?

Re: Internet Download Speed

I am running Windows Firewall (Settings):

Firewall state: on

Incoming Connections: Block all connections to programs that are not on the list of allowed programs

Active Home or Work (private) networks: {My Network}

Notification State: Notify me when Windows Firewall blocks a new program

I would think a firewall issue would either 'Allow' or 'Block'.  I allowed to access to the internet.  It is just slow on download.
