Internet connection failure.

Internet connection problem
By cheesiest in Networking, Internet, Wireless

I'm not the best at network problems.

But I'll give you what I know.

Dell Dimension E510 / XP

Wired Internet access worked in the past. Now the NIC flashes Yellow and Green. And no connection.

The wiring has been tested with another laptop. No Problems.

So its either a connection issue or a Firewall issue.

NIC has been reinstalled. Same issues.

Any suggestions on a TCP IP or port idea would be great.

Thanks.

A good replacement NIC that I'm using is the Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter, a PCI Express x1 card. It's supported by Windows 7 so there's no need to manually install a driver. The card is still supported by Intel so you can get updated drivers for it, but I haven't needed to update the driver.

Install the Intel card and disable the onboard NIC in the BIOS. The card works great for me and my bandwidth is pretty good. Speedtest.net measures download speeds at over 60Mbps and upload speeds at around 12Mbps. That's inline with the level of service I'm paying for with Comcast, my ISP.
