Internet connection with Inspiron 5100
Hallo,
I am not so familiar with the network stuff. At my very old Optiplex GX1 I put a PCI Fritz DSL SL card and the corresponding
Software and the DSL connection work very well...
At my notebook dell Inspiron 5100 I am not able to reach the internet…
It is possible to go to the internet just with the on board network card or do I need an additional DSL-modem?
I use no wireless components or something else.
The splitter-cable is just connected with the computer. It doesn’t work.......
What could be wrong?
I loaded already the latest drivers for broadcomm440XXX and the chipset.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Since the only way you have of connecting to the dsl internet provider is through a modem that is internal to the Optiplex, you will either need to obtain an external dsl modem to make the connection or, if the Optiplex has an additional ethernet card, connect the two computer's etherenet cards together with a cross-over cable and use Internet Connection Sharing to share the internall dsl modem's connection (this assumes that whichever version of Windows running on the Optiplex supports Internet Connection Sharing.
The set up you have is not a very common setup, at least in the U.S. I can't even say for sure that the internal modem will support Internet Connection Sharing.

Yes that is the problem, because your dsl modem is inside the Optiplex. Since it is the modem that makes the connection to your dsl provider, there is no way you can connect to your dsl provider without the modem.
