M5110 Wireless Adapter Upgrade

Has anyone out here in the community attempted to upgrade their wireless adapter? I know I can go buy a $40 fat USB adapter, but I would like to get dual band abilities without a USB adapter. I hate that I got an upgraded Inspiron 15R that did not have a dual band wireless adapter. Any ideas or thoughts would be awesome.

Thanks,

Kr0w

Would the Dell Wireless 1540 be compatible?

Hi Kr0w,

Dual band wireless cards have not been tested with Inspiron M 5110. The wireless cards that are shipped with Inspiron M 5110 are:

  • Dell Wireless WLAN 1701 Half Mini-Card
  • Dell Wireless WLAN 1702 Half Mini-Card
  • Dell Wireless WLAN 1502 Half Mini-Card
  • Dell Wireless WLAN 1503 Half Mini-Card
The above mentioned cards are single band cards. Dell wireless 1540 card should work since it is a half mini card which is similar to the wireless cards shipped with your system. Below are few other dual band cards:

  • Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230
  • Intel WiFi Link 5100 Wireless-N
  • Intel WiFi Link 5300 Wireless-N

Please reply for any clarifications.
