Network Communications slow launch following power-up.

I accidentally posted this as a reply in a previous thread. But since the subject has actually changed, am posting it new.

I would welcome any suggestions or comments on this.

A bit of experimentation has revealed a possible explanation for why I have to wait 2 minutes after power-up to launch Network Communications. It appears that it takes the 2 minutes for my computer to handshake with the SpeedStream 5100 DSL modem supplied by Southwestern Bell. I power-up the computer and the "Activity" light on the modem stays unlit (inactive) for about 2 minutes, then it begins its activity flickering.

It seems odd to me that it should take that long. If it should not take that long, then I still have a problem somewhere.

Re: Network Communications slow launch following power-up.

Got no response to previous posts.

But here ya go:    This problem seems to have disappeared after installing a Netgear router and accessing that way. Now the connect is up and running immediately after boot.
