Hi F J K,

Thanks for the post! Looks like you’re missing a few chipset drivers along with the wireless card. I've included a list of drivers that should help you out with a Windows 8 64-bit installation on an Inspiron 5720/17R. They will need to be installed in the order listed below.

 Intel HM77 Chipset Driver

Thank you for your help.  I attempted to install HM77 chipset driver found at the first link you gave me for Inspiron 17r-5721 and it failed. Here's the info.

Do I need a wireless card installed before I attempt to install these drivers?

I thought it was Inspiron 17r, because the seller said so.  I just checked the service tag, and it says it is a 15R 5537.  I installed Windows 8 64 bit.

What model of Dell do you have and did you install Windows 8.0 or 8.1? 32 Bit or 64 Bit?

Okay install:

Restart your computer and then update the BIOS:

Then install:

Intel Chipset:

Intel Management Engine Interface:

Realtek Ethernet:

Dell Wireless 1705:

Then proceed to upgrade to Windows 8.1:

Once you have Windows 8.1 install the following:

Update 1:

* Select the 690.8 MB .msu

Card Reader

Intel Rapid Storage Technology

Audio:

Touchpad

Intel Video (Install before AMD Video)

AMD Video 8850M/8870M [Variant A]

AMD Video 8670M [Variant B]

Airplane Switch Driver:

Dell Quickset

Then let Windows Update fully.

Install Dell Backup and Recovery and it will make this clean install as new factory settings:

Thank you all for your help. The problem seemed to have been fixed a couple days ago after I ran dell system diagnostics and installed the listed drivers. I installed all the windows updates available and upgraded to Windows 8.1. However I am noticing a problem with full screen video playback. Every time I go to full screen while watching something the display erratically flashes with static like lines and blacks out occasionally for a few seconds. I ran the dell video card and display tests and both passed perfectly. Also, when I run dell system analysis it tells me to install the following. Chipset_Driver_KV645_WN_9.5.24.1790_A02.EXE | CS (75MB) When I install it, restart, and run the analysis again it tells me to install it again. I have done this three times so far. I'd really appreciate help with this. Thanks
