Problem with Dell Wireless 1704 802.11b/g/n

Hi All!

I have a problem with Dell Wireless 1704 802.11b/g/n in my Dell 17R Inspiron 5720. Speed of my wifi connection changing from 5.5Mb/s to 54Mb/s all the time.

I`m using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 OS. Problem is with wifi card Broadcom 4356, another laptop (HP) has stable speed 150Mb/s. I tried different options of card driver and router D-Link DIR-320NRU,  but nothing have changed.

Is anyone can help me, please??

I am having all the same issues.  Uninstalled/reinstalled the adapters, updated to most current drivers and BIOS and even sat closer to the router.  My Dell XPS, HP Pavilion and iPhones have no issues.  I have played with all the power setting and still have issues dropping.  Seems to be a serious issue here.

I have the same problem with the same Dell wireless 1704 on my Dell 15R 5520. I using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and I update BIOS to latest version. I tried both drivers for wireless recommended from Dell - A00, A01 but no change. The speed changing from 11Mb/s to 121mb/s  but often stands at 11Mb/s. I think the problem is in the drivers.

I have the Dell Inspiron 15r 5520 with the same problem.  The 1704 is connecting at 36Mbps.  I tried re-loading the current driver and the tips outlined by pudgy to no avail.  It's not the only problem I'm currently having with this laptop...it's going back to Dell on Monday.

I will mention...the drivers for the 1704 Wireless adapter on Dell's download page for the 15r 5520 that are under the "Networking" title don't specifically mention the wireless adapter, just bluetooth...this should be labelled more clearly.

Good luck to the other folks.

I have the same issue with a new vostro 3360 running the 1704 wifi card. I am considering just buying a Intel 4965 4965AGN wireless WiFi PCI-E to replace it with.  I am assuming the 4965AGN will work with the dell.

That worked really well for me - changed from "auto" to "aux", went from around 300 kb/s to 4.5 mb/s.

(have a brand new Inspiron 15z laptop with Windows 8, wireless card is Dell Wireless 1740)

Thx.

Just had a new batch of 3360's arrive, they have all dropped the 1704 and moved back to 1703 the 1703's work fine. My suggestion is replace the 1704's with another an intel or see if dell will swap for a 1703.
