I also have had similar problems with my wireless card. Here is what I found:

The Dell DW1525 uses an Atheros AR5xxx/AR9xxx chip.

Dell's site does not have the most updated version so I used DriverMax to update the driver, it seems to work (http://download.cnet.com/DriverMax/3000-18513_4-10572602.html).

However you can get the most updated version at this site http://www.station-drivers.com/page/atheros.htm.That didn't work for me but seems to work for other people.  Good luck.

Some time has passed and I can say my new driver keeps my signal at two bars, so it is better but I was hoping for a 5 bar signal which I ought to get from this distance from the router.
